Unilever Nigeria PLC is a subsidiary of Unilever, a British-Dutch fast-moving consumer staple goods company founded on the 2nd of September 1929 in the UK. It is actually one of the world’s oldest surviving and leading multinational companies in history. It actually resulted from a merger between Dutch’s margarine maker, Margarine Unie and soap producer, Lever Brothers.
In Nigeria, the organization first registered its presence as Lever Brothers (West Africa) Ltd which was incorporated / established on 11th of April, 1923 as a soap manufacturing company by Lord Leverhulme (during the colonial rule era).
Fast-forward to the 80’s after acquiring companies like Lipton Nigeria Ltd in 1985, Cheesebrough Ponds Industries Ltd in 1988 and others, Unilever Nigeria diversified its portfolio and began production & marketing of other non-soapy products like personal care items, processed foods and home products.
These categories above that aims to take care of adequate nutrition, proper hygiene and personal well-being (sanitation) include some of its brands like Lipton, Knorr, Axe, Hellmann’s, Dove and 395 more.
